ReplyDeleteis there any chance you could help me in identifying whether or not my tiny tree may or may not be a White Oak? I have asked so many people and even people at a local University are stumped. This is her second "Spring" so I am hoping her leaves will be more of her true nature. Last year her leaves looked like a White Oak (I have owned one so I am familiar with them at an older age than this tiny tree) but the leaves were serrated. They were lobed and turned colors for the fall, even had the light green underneath the leaves, but the serrated edges blew away everyone who has tried to help in identifying this tree. Here is a photo I just took of a brand new leaf just starting to show. And a couple of others from Autumn to show you the lobes and serrated edges.

we live in Idaho so we have several oaks that are native and lots of other native trees. I have found white oak leaves in our yard, so I can only assume there are some nearby, but of course there are also a lot of trees nearby. I was told it could be a hawthorn but it has no thorns and does not resemble one except for the edges of the leaves. Thanks again.
